The 3rd annual Cairo Jazz Festival 2011 (CJF 2011) will run from 17-19 March, 2011 at the SAWY Culture Wheel complex in the heart of Cairo, Egypt. CJF 2011’s goal is to provide jazz education and entertainment from a shared perspective on global Jazz culture and music to a broad sector of Egyptian society. CJF 2011 will provide non-profit educational services to music students and Jazz lovers through performances, workshops, lectures and clinics.
16 local and international bands will be performing in CJF 2011 from Egypt, Japan, Germany, Spain, USA, Holland, Austria, Slovenia and Australia.
A special program dedicated to children (Jazzinino) is being offered this year for young people to experience the pleasure and excitement of being on stage next to a real Jazz professional. School children and their family members are invited to attend and participate, making music alongside professionals, while enjoying a sunny Friday and Saturday in the Garden of Wisdom Hall. The aim of the program is to create awareness of music as an educational resource and encourage young people to choose music as a lifelong pursuit while fostering music education and performance as a legitimate career choice.
The German Women’s Jazz Orchestra will appear for the first time at CJF 2011 led by Angelika Niescier.
"Jazz beyond Stage" shows will be taking place at the Cairo Jazz Club every night from 11 p.m. onwards. "Jazz beyond Stage" will provide a place for musicians to meet, exchange contacts and do business while having fun making music together in Cairo’s foremost jazz club.
CJF 2011 is focusing this year on promoting natural products, foods and handmade accessories. CJF 2011 is being organized in a "smoke free" zone.
An open jam session will be held every Saturday during the time around the festival at the Word Hall.
