Timeline of the workshop:

1- What is Film? Differences between drama, documentary and experimental elements – The role of the cinematographer in film – overview of the cinematic masterpieces.

2- Types of: (shots – angles – camera movements) – maintaining continuity through the 180 degrees rule – Basic elements of composition (line – shape – color – texture – tone – space – depth) – Principles of composition (Rule of thirds – Simplicity – Patterns – Leading Lines – Framing – Balance – Contrast).

3- Photography and lighting theory (shutter speed – aperture – ISO) – digital sensors and different film stocks – Color temperature and white balance – depth of field – Negative vs. RAW vs. digital video – lenses overview.

4- Screening and discussing the first exercise –Usage of composition in films (analysis).

5- The role of lighting in film – Types of lighting – Accessories and rigs – 5 attributes of lighting (quality – direction – intensity – spectral output – mood).

6- Three-point lighting – Low key vs high key – Light meters – Motivated vs Stylized lighting – using reflectors and natural lighting creatively.

7- Lighting training and exercises – general discussion about lighting in film.

8- Different formats & Styles of Cinematography – aspect ratio – the DOP general workflow – Handling digital media.

9- Basic color correction – developing personal projects.

10- Projects screenings, discussions, recap.

The workshop will last for 10 lectures

Workshop days: Sunday and Tuesday from 17/2 to 19/3
