Director Robert Guédiguian:

Robert Guédiguian was born in Marseille. Many of his early films, including À la ia, à la mort (1995) and La Ville est tranquille (2000), screened in the Director's Spotlight programme at the 2002 Festival, and he returned to TIFF with his subsequent features Mon père est ingénieur (2004), Le Voyage en Arménie (2006), and Neiges du Kilimandjaro (2011). Other credits include Le promeneur du champ de Mars (2005), L'armée du crime (2009), and Une histoire de fou (2015). The House by the Sea (2017) is his latest film.

"The chemistry between the three main actors is effortlessly familial ... There is scarcely an unconvincing note struck throughout, but some of the relationships are almost too carefully mapped out, contributing to a repetitive feel" - Jessica Kiang (Variety)

"[The film takes] things from an intimate and personal level to a global scale while skipping over an awful lot of things in between." -Boyd van Hoeij (The Hollywood Reporter)

"One of his most satisfying recent films...The crisply scripted drama uses economical strokes to sketch themes of wider social change" -Jonathan Romney (Screendaily)
