Orien-Trio is a project by three international artists from very different backgrounds, one Swede, one Indian, and one Egyptian.
Its a musical journey from Hindustan to Egypt, from Raga to Maqam... A trio exploring the flavours of different cultures on a magic carpet ride through time and space, accompanied by the sitar, the flute and the tabla.
K.G. Westman -sitar
is one of Europe´s foremost sitar players in the field of North Indian classical and semi classical music. As a senior disciple of Pandit Rabindra Narayan Goswami he has performed in India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Europe, USA and Russia as well as for radio and T.V.
Due to training in both Indian and Western Music, he also makes an excellent teacher and conductor of workshops regardless of the background of the participants.
K.G. Westman is one of the founders and main organizers of the Stockholm Sangeet Festival, Scandinavia’s most prestigeous event for Indian Classical Music and dance, which has run continuously for over a decade.
In 2017 the album Sonashish was released on the Kolkata label Bihaan Music.
Adham Al-Sayyad -kawala
has spent tough time trying to reach out for guidance until he was adopted by the well known Kawala master Ahmed El-Arnab in 2010. Since then, Adham has been following El-Arnab to gain the inherited knowledge and skill of mastering the instrument in its traditional atmosphere. Moreover, Adham have been exposed to different musical cultures in different projects, where he managed to maintain the traditional spirit of the instrument while learning to smoothly integrate in several genres giving it an exotic sense of ease.
Suranjana Ghosh -tabla
is one of the very few female professional tabla players from India. A diciple of Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri, she moves across a broad spectrum of musical styles, in India and in the West. In the 2000s she has had many collaborations with musicians in Sweden and numerous and diverse music projects. With roots in North Indian Classical music, Suranjana meets music and musicians from various genres: Indian raga, Swedish folk, blues, jazz, flamenco, church music, opera, etc
